VC Practices Survey

Indian  VC  industry  is  in  a  "start-up" phase  and  its dynamics  is  not  fully understood by everyone. One reason for this is  paucity of  information  regarding the  process  of raising  capital  and  the expectations  of the Venture Capitalists. This has resulted in a market mismatch -- lack  of VC funding  for  the  entrepre- neurs on one hand , and  poor deal flow resulting in  surplus  funds  with the VC investors , on the other.

The  survey  was  conducted  in  the last quarter  of  year  2000. This  was  a web- based survey which enabled us to collect the  responses  on   our   server   directly through    the    internet.   The   survey  contained 30 questions.

The survey was sent to 48 venture capital funds / companies operating in India. The response was heartening as 36 of the 48 (75 %) responded.

The objective of the Survey was to  help create an efficient venture capital market- place  by  providing  relevant  information about  the  process and  practices  of raising venture capital in India.

The responses  have  been  collated and analysed  in  this  report. This report has been sent to all the VCs who participated in this survey.
