Suggestions for a Vibrant VC Market

As part of the survey, VC funds were also requested to provide their suggestions for a vibrant VC market. Some of their feelings are reproduced below:

"Regulations to be eased .Tax breaks"

"Vibrant VC environment requires macro economic corrections with regard to large scale provision of Angel Funding, Rational investment priorities not driven by general sentiments, Scam free stock markets, Depth in merger & acquisition market etc. Till above corrections are brought about, the growth in VC industry will remain uncertain and driven by temporary economic sentiments."

"Open minded regulator required."

"Govt., please leave the industry to itself and do not tinker with the policies here and there and create more confusion (Offshore VC guidelines - no body knows whether an existing Offshore VC could register with SEBI or not, if yes, whether the exit guidelines would be applicable to the past portfolio or not). Minimise regulations, reduce confusion between various guidelines and give the exit price freedom to offshore funds."

Overall, the funds have expressed confidence in the resilience of the economy and expect a fairly bright future. They only wish, however, that government and regulators come up with enabling laws and clearer signals so that India can have a more vibrant VC environment.
